Smoked Flanken Style Short Ribs with Grillaholics SPG+Butter
by JB’s BBQ & Guns
Don't forget to grab some flanken short ribs on your grocery run. Their size makes it easy to pack them with tons of flavor and allows for quick grilling.
But don't take my word for it, here's JB breaking down the steps of how to do it right!
Yo, what's up everybody! It's your boy, JB with JB's BBQ & Guns coming at y'all again today… We're getting ready to grill what's becoming some of my favorite, favorite cuts of meat to eat at any given time because it's bite-sized and it's fast to do.
Today, we're gonna be grilling up some good old flanking ribs, okay. I love these ribs because they can take on a lot of flavor… So you can either marinate them overnight in some wet marinade. You can marinate them for like two-four hours. Or you can do like I'm gonna do and just kind of dry brine them… and let them sit out until I get my grill fired up. Let’em come up to room temperature and then throw them on the grill…
But in the process… I want y'all to go and check out Grillaholics… every piece of utensil that you're gonna see me using today you can go purchase on Grillaholics.com and if you use code BBQGUNS you'll get 20% off of your purchase…
Now, we're going to go ahead and get these pieces of flanking steak all seasoned up. And as you can see there's not a whole lot to do. We don't have to do any trimming with this stuff, so all we really need to do is go ahead and get them seasoned on both sides. And the seasoning that we're going to be using today is this “Salt Pepper Garlic with Butter” from Grillaholics… What better goes on steak than salt pepper garlic with some butter already in one little package… I haven't used it on anything, but I have tasted it, and it tastes phenomenal, okay.
So the first thing we're going to do… is we're going to spray them down with some olive oil… That's just to prevent them from sticking on the grills when we put them on there…
Then we're going to get some of this salt pepper garlic and butter blend. Make sure it's mixed up real good... The seasoning really gets into the meat... It's very quick and easy to do. Today, we're going to be cooking these things for about maybe 35-45 minutes, okay. And you can also, like, slow smoke them. It takes about two hours of slow smoking, but today, I don't have a whole lot of time... so we're going to grill them.
Grill grate is nice and hot, coming at about 400 degrees over here. As you can see, I got a hot and I got a “cool” zone, but they're both hot zones, okay.
But I got a grill brush over here, and I want to clean my grill off first... This angle of this handle, it enables you to grip it with both hands and really get down in there with some power…
Now let's go ahead and just spray the grill grates with some olive oil just to ensure that our meat doesn't stick.. alright so now we're going to go ahead and put these pieces of flank stank over here…
I'll come back and check them in about 6-7 minutes to give them a flip, and I'll continue to flip them for about the next 20-25 minutes. And then, I'll put them over here on the “cool” side so to speak... I got two pieces of hickory chunks on there just to give it some smoked flavor.
Man, these things are juicy. Look at that! It's going to be tender…
I love these tongs, man. These little teeth on the end of them. It makes it really easy to grip like that.
They look great. They smell great… We're going to see how they taste. I'm excited to see how this SPG right here pairs up on these flanking ribs, so let's go ahead and give it a taste.
Nice and tender. That's a really nice flavor. It really goes well with this beef product and something about the salt and pepper garlic butter blend it really gives this a really nice flavor...
So the next time you want a quick tasty meal think about getting some of these little flanking ribs right here. They don't take long. Let's say about six minutes each side or so. Then you put them to the side and just let them smoke for about 35, 40 minutes or so. They'll be good to go!
